ANCHOR
There's something you've only ever done, or felt, in the dark — a private moment, a hidden habit, an unspoken thought — that you assumed was invisible simply because no one else could see it.
SCRIPTURE TEXT
"If I say, 'Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,' even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you." — Psalm 139:11-12 (NIV)

TENSION
The psalmist voices the actual temptation: “surely the darkness will hide me.” That's not someone else's doubt he's refuting in the abstract — it's his own assumption, spoken honestly, before being corrected. And the correction isn't gentle vagueness; it's total reversal: darkness and light are described as identical to God — “darkness is as light to you.” Not “God can see a little in the dark.” Total equivalence. That's uncomfortable if you've been counting on the dark to keep something private. But it's also the same comfort as the rest of the psalm turned toward a harder application: the presence that guides and holds you in your best and worst moments is the same presence that already sees what you've hidden in the dark — and it hasn't left either time.
REFLECT
What have you been assuming was hidden simply because it happened in private, and what would it mean to actually believe it was already fully known?
PRAYER
There are things I've assumed were hidden just because no one else saw them. I forget that You've never needed the light to know me fully. I don't want to keep pretending the dark parts are separate from You. Let the same presence that holds me and guides me also meet me in what I've kept hidden. Amen.
