ANCHOR
You've probably faced something and assumed, at least for a moment, that you were facing it entirely alone — that there was no one, including God, who was actually there in that exact place with you.
SCRIPTURE TEXT
"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?" — Psalm 139:7 (NIV)

TENSION
This isn't really a question — it's rhetorical, and the psalmist already knows the answer before he asks it. He isn't testing an escape route; he's marveling that one doesn't exist. That's a different posture than searching for a way out. It's closer to someone describing how thoroughly they've been found, and discovering that thoroughness is good news rather than an intrusion. Notice, too, that the rest of the psalm answers with extremes — the highest heavens, the depths of the grave, the wings of the dawn, the far side of the sea — not modest, nearby examples. The claim isn't “God is usually close by.” It's “there is no conceivable location, however extreme, where this isn't true.” For anyone who's ever felt like they were facing something in isolation — a diagnosis, a private failure, a long night — this verse says that isolation was never actually real, even when it felt certain.
REFLECT
Where have you assumed you were facing something entirely alone, and what would change if you actually believed there was nowhere outside God's presence?
PRAYER
I've acted sometimes like I was facing this by myself, like You couldn't possibly be in the exact place I was standing. Thank You for a presence I can't actually outrun, even to the edges I imagine. I don't want space from You — I want to actually believe You're already wherever I am. Amen.
