ANCHOR
You've probably had mornings where anxiety got there before you did, awake before dawn with your mind already racing through everything the day might bring.
SCRIPTURE TEXT
"Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life... I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word." — Psalm 119:49-50, 147 (NIV)

TENSION
Notice the psalmist doesn't wait for daylight, or for calm, before turning to God. He rises before dawn specifically to cry for help, meeting the anxiety at its earliest, rawest point rather than waiting until he's composed enough to pray well. And the comfort he names isn't a feeling. It's a promise, something outside his own shifting emotional state that preserves his life regardless of how he feels in that particular pre-dawn moment. Hope, here, is placed in something durable, God's word, precisely because the psalmist's own suffering and early-morning dread are not durable ground to stand on.
REFLECT
What would it look like to bring your earliest, rawest anxiety directly to God, the way this psalmist rises before dawn to do, rather than waiting until you feel more composed?
PRAYER
My mind gets there before I do some mornings, already anxious before the day has even started. Thank You that Your promise doesn't depend on how put-together I feel when I bring it to You. I put my hope in Your word today, not in my own ability to calm down first. Meet me before dawn, in whatever this is. Amen.
