ANCHOR
There's a sorrow you've probably stopped expecting to actually end, something you've quietly built your life around instead of waiting for it to be resolved.
SCRIPTURE TEXT
"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away... Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb." — Revelation 21:4, 22:1 (NIV)

TENSION
Notice the specificity of what's promised gone: death, mourning, crying, pain, not softened, not managed, but actually absent, because the old order of things has passed away. This isn't a coping mechanism offered for the meantime. It's the announcement that the entire system producing the grief will itself be replaced. And right alongside that ending, John doesn't just describe absence. He describes a river, water of life, flowing from the throne itself, life continuing to flow out from the very source of comfort.
REFLECT
What sorrow have you quietly stopped expecting to end, that this passage insists is not actually permanent?
PRAYER
I've built parts of my life around a grief I stopped expecting to leave. Thank You that You haven't promised to just help me manage it forever. You've promised an old order passing away entirely, and a river of life flowing from Your own throne. Let that be more than a distant hope today. Let it actually shape how I carry this now. Amen.
