ANCHOR

You've probably been carrying something long enough that you've forgotten what it felt like before you picked it up, and some part of you resists actually setting it down even when the chance is right in front of you.

SCRIPTURE TEXT

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." — Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

TENSION

Notice what Jesus offers instead of removal. He doesn't say give me your burden and I'll make it disappear. He says take my yoke, trading one weight for another, gentler one. Rest, in this text, isn't the absence of all load. It's a different, lighter load carried alongside someone gentle and humble, rather than alone. And learn from me comes paired with the invitation to rest, meaning the rest isn't just relief from effort. It's an apprenticeship in a whole different way of carrying things.

REFLECT

What have you been carrying alone that this passage is actually inviting you to trade for something lighter, not to set down entirely, but to carry differently?

PRAYER

I've been carrying this so long I don't remember what it felt like before. I don't just want the weight removed. I want to actually learn from You how to carry it differently. Give me Your yoke instead of the one I've built for myself. Let it actually be light. Amen.
