ANCHOR
There's probably a divide in your week between the parts that feel like “faith” and the parts that are just ordinary — commuting, working, answering emails. Most of life ends up on the ordinary side of that line.
SCRIPTURE TEXT
"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." — Colossians 3:16-17 (NIV)

TENSION
Paul doesn't separate the “sacred” activity — singing, teaching — from the “ordinary” one: whatever you do, in word or deed. He puts them in the same breath, deliberately. The songs aren't only for personal devotion; they're for teaching and admonishing each other. The message of Christ “dwelling richly” isn't confined to a worship service — it's meant to be present in ordinary speech and action. There's something almost self-referential worth sitting with here, too: this very passage describes what a song like this one is supposed to do — carry the message of Christ between people, richly, so it shapes ordinary obedience, not just an emotional moment.
REFLECT
Where is the dividing line in your week between “faith” and “ordinary,” and what would it look like to erase it in just one place today?
PRAYER
I've kept You mostly in the parts of my week that already look spiritual, and let everything else run on autopilot. I don't want a divided life like that anymore. Let Your word dwell in me richly enough that it shows up in the ordinary things too — the word I choose, the way I do the next small task. Whatever I do today, let it be done in Your name, with actual gratitude behind it. Amen.
