ANCHOR
There's a difference between someone caring about your situation from a distance and someone actually moving into the neighborhood, living where you live, seeing what you see every day.
SCRIPTURE TEXT
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." — John 1:14 (NIV)

TENSION
This is the verse where John finally says outright what he's been building toward for thirteen verses: the Word, present before creation, active in creation, became an actual flesh-and-blood human being — Jesus. Not a symbol of him, not a temporary appearance, but a man who ate, slept, and eventually bled. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” — literally, in the original language, pitched a tent among us, a deliberately impermanent- sounding image for something meant to be intimate and near. And the text says “we have seen his glory” — not heard about it, not inferred it theologically, but witnessed it directly in that one specific man, glory that arrived at street level rather than staying safely elevated above it. “Full of grace and truth” holds together two things that often feel like they compete — truth that doesn't flinch from what's real, and grace that doesn't punish you for it. Both fully present in Jesus, at the same time, without either one diminishing the other.
REFLECT
Where do you need God to be near at street level right now, rather than just caring about your situation from a comfortable distance?
PRAYER
I need You close, not just concerned. Thank You for a God who didn't stay elevated but actually moved in among us. Let me actually see Your glory up close in whatever I'm facing today, full of the truth I need to hear and the grace I don't deserve. Amen.
