ANCHOR
You've probably wondered, quietly, whether being loved was conditional on you getting your act together first — whether the rebuilding had to start with you, before anyone measured you as worth loving.
SCRIPTURE TEXT
"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. I will build you up again, and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt." — Jeremiah 31:3-4 (NIV)

TENSION
Notice the order: “I have loved you” is past tense, already settled, before “I will build you up” is even promised. The rebuilding isn't what earns the love — the love is the reason the rebuilding happens. And this word came to a people in exile, who had fractured the relationship themselves through generations of unfaithfulness. This isn't spoken to the innocent. It's spoken directly into consequence. That's what makes “everlasting” mean something here — it isn't naive affection; it's love that outlasted the exact failure that should have ended it.
REFLECT
Where have you assumed love had to wait until after you'd rebuilt yourself, rather than being the reason rebuilding is even possible?
PRAYER
I've assumed I had to fix myself before I could actually be loved — rebuilt before I was worth building up. Thank You that Your love isn't waiting on my repair; it's the reason repair is even happening. Build what's broken in me, Lord, not to earn something I don't have yet, but because You already say You have loved me. Amen.
